The city of Guildford is located in the region of England and has a population that is just over 130,000. It is situated on the River Wey, about 50 miles from London.

The history of Guildford is one that dates back to at least the year 1000. There are a few different stories about who was first living there in that time, but we know for sure it has been inhabited since Saxon times.

The city's population grew as more people began farming and trading goods with other towns in England during this period. Later on, when French monks came over from Normandy, they also settled here along with many others.

During Medieval times some churches were built by both these groups of settlers which still exist today such as Holy Trinity Church or St Anne’s Chapel near Stoke Park House Museum.

Guildford is full of interesting mementos from its past such as churches built by French monks 400 years ago (as we've already mentioned), which are still standing today (such as Holy Trinity Church).

There are also traces of Roman buildings found on sites like Stoke Park House Museum where you can see parts of ancient mosaics preserved beneath stone flagging near the front door to one wing of the house dating back nearly 2000 years ago!

The Guildford town center is pedestrianised so you can walk around at your leisure admiring the old buildings like St Andrew’s Church, which is one of England's oldest parish churches.

The town center has many small shops and restaurants to suit everyone's tastes as well as a market every Friday morning with fresh produce from local farmers markets just outside Guildford.

There are also some delightful parks in this area such as Stoke Park Country Club where you will find two lovely golf courses (the Surrey Rose course and the Pheasant Course), an 18-hole putting green, tennis courts, outdoor bowls alley, an indoor bowling club and even a swimming pool!

Nearby attractions include Stonehenge -- about 60 miles away by car or train but only 20 minutes by train.

Guildford is only a short drive from London, and you can easily get there with the frequent trains from Guildford train station.

Surrey University is found in Guildford, and its iconic clock tower can be seen from all around the city.

The Stoke Park Country Club offers two 18-hole golf courses -- the Surrey Rose course and the Pheasant Course, as well as outdoor bowls alley, indoor bowling club and even a swimming pool.

All in all, Guildford is a lovely town that offers residents and visitors a great escape.

With reasonable property prices, Guildford in Surrey is an affordable alternative to the capital.

With good schools and a well laid out town, Guildford offers a safe environment for your children to grow up, and a great place to call home.
